The idea of this site is for people to have somewhere "safe" to go, enabling them to feel safe and secure about what they are posting.
Somewhere that people can go to discuss Mental Health issues, learn more about them and find others who have experienced/are experiencing the same issues.
The site is to be very welcoming and friendly, but also with an honest, yet tactful approach where necessary.
We currently have several different sections that we are starting off with, but will add more as we get a larger member base and as we get member suggestions/requests.
Some of our current categories are:
Mental Health
DSM-IV-RT Links
Abuse & Assictions
Grief & Loss and
Off Topic
Our main area of focus is on Mental Health. With 1 in 3 people suffering from a Mental Illness, we feel that this is an important topic and there is a strong need for a forum where people can post about this, whilst feeling safe and secure.
Some of our sections are private and require a password to enable members to read and post in them. This is to provide some extra security for those affected by these subjects and to prevent "lurkers" or guests to the site from viewing these sections. We feel this shoudl attract more members, by allowing them to feel more secure.
The site is not only aimed at people who are suffering from mental illness, but also those who aren't, but who are close to someone who is suffering from mental illness. We hope to provide these people with support, knowledege and a greater understanding.
Im not 100% sure that Education was the best place to put this site in, so please move this if you think it should be elsewhere.
I am just starting the site out and it is my first website, so any suggestions on how to make it sucessful and to get it known or to help people find it, would be appreciated.
